We would also like to thank all off our supporters who came out on the night to support us.

It was also Great to see some of the old guard making a their first competitive starts off the year with Stevie Jordan and Paul Cahill both playing terrific games at full back and corner back and with Kieran Wynne still full of energetic bursts up and down the field we have gathered a mixture of old wise heads and the younger generation coming through the club giving us a nice balance to work with .

Team : S Moloney, S Kinsella, S Jordan, P Cahill, K Cott, T Brennan, K Wynne, A Tighe, J kinch, C Cawley, S Kelly, L Kinsella, C Eastwood, Aido, C Sweeney

Scoreres:

C Eastwood 2-4, Aido 1-1, S Kelly 0-3, J Kinch 0-2, C Sweeney 0-1, E Mcguigan 0-1, K Cott 0-1

Div 2 League: CuChulainns v Thomas McCurtains 28-04-2012

Football League

Match Reports

gaelic football london

london gaelic football
<guid

Our early pre season training stood by the players well and the effort and commitment off all players must continue for us to have a successful season in what is our clubs 80th year in existence.

The game started fairly even with Cu Chullains playing against the wind in the first half but we adjusted well to the stiff breeze against us. After some good football the first score off the afternoon came from some great play by Charlie Cowley who slotted over with the outside of the boot from 20 metres. Sean Kelly got the second point after some good play by the defence and midfield who worked the ball in direct to Kelly who took on his man and slotted over the bar.

Next up on the score sheet was Danny Denton who found space behind the McCurtains defence and after a fisted pass slotted over a nice point.

The McCurtains only registered 2 points in the opening half and with 2 Chris Eastwood points the teams finished off at the interval 6-2 to CuChullains advantage.

After some positive feedback from the management team of DJ Bradley, Mick Rogers and Cathal Murtagh we took to the field with what we thought would be a slightly easier task as we had the wind behind our backs but this was not the case.

McCurtains started the stronger and kicked over a couple of points with the defence under serious pressure. The one and only Goal chance of the afternoon fell to a maccartains player and with his head bearing down on goal with only the Goal keeper to beat Sean Moloney pulled off a wonder save to keep us with our slim points advantage.
When Cu Chullains managed to get up the field we took our chances well , with Pod Biggane, and calvin registering vital points on the board after hard work through out the team.

We managed to hold on to our one point lead and all the players especially the defensive and midfield unit have to take extra credit as we where under a lot of pressure but hunted the McCurtains players in packs and came out on top.
Lets hope we can continue our good start to the year with victory over our old rivals Dulwich in Thursday Evenings Game.

Man of the Match: Anthony Tighe

Scorers: C Eastwood 0-3, S Kelly 0-1, P Biganne 0-1,C Cawley 0-1,D Denton 0-1, J Kinch 0-1,Calvin 0-1

Team: Sean Moloney, Shimbo Kinsella, Keith Mcgovern, Joe Cashman, Eddie Mcguigan, Tom Brennan, Danny Denton, Anthony Tighe, John Kinch, Calvin, Chalrie Cawley, Damien Barker, Chris Eastwood, Sean Kelly, Pod Biggane. Some confusion over the final scoreline leads us to believe that Cuchulainns should have been given at least a draw because some lads had it 1-10 to 1-9 to Cuchulainns.

In any case, whatever the score, it was a fine game of hurling in very tough conditions where both teams gave their all. Granuaile got off to the better start putting over 4 points without reply, a couple from frees. But then Cuchulainns found our stride and began pegging them back with some good points from Tom Brennan, Joe Cashman, and Jon Delahunty. By half time there was little to choose between the teams.

However, some disagreements over the scoreline at halftime between the teams, umpires, and ref caused some confusion. In the end, it was agreed by all parties that the score at half-time go down as 0-8 to 0-6 to Granuaile (although we are certain it should have been 0-7 to 0-6). The ref tried to say it was 0-8 to 0-5 but we reckon he marked one of our points as a point to them, so the correct score should have been 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time.

In the second half, Cuchulainns continued to push forward and clawed our way back into the game with some good points from play, as well as another one or two from frees by Tom Brennan, and Cuchulainns led by a point half way through the second half until Granuaile pulled it back level again. Then the next score was a goal for Granuaile, which was well stopped initially by sub keeper, Cathal Murtagh, but the ball rebounded kindly for Granuaile who stuck it in the net.

But Cuchulainns kept fighting all the way and would be rewarded with a goal of our own from the stick of Damian Holohan with 5 mins remaining to bring the scores back level (or so we thought). In the end, the ref put the score down as a 1 point win for Granuaile and that’s that I guess. Nonetheless, whatever the score, it was a hard fought game and both teams gave a good account of themselves, and no doubt will have another fierce battle when the championship comes along later in the summer.

<span
