Cuchulainns V Shalloe Pearse Malarkey Cup

In glorious conditions at Greenford on Saturday ,we entertained Shalloe Pearses in the Malarkey cup. With a very strong panel available for the management to pick from , we proved far too strong for a spirited Shalloe Pearses side who never gave up and who where quite a physical team.
There where debuts for Ricardo Anjos, Wayne O Grady and a late substitute appearance by former Fermanagh Minor goalkeeper Kieran Leonard.
Cuchulainns started the brighter team with points from the boot of Eastwood, Kelly and with further Scores raising the green flag with goals from Wayne O Grady and Jonny Kinch who time after time made tireless runs to support the full forward line running through the middle and on this occasion he got his reward with a well finished goal.
In the first half there where further scores from Charlie Cawley and the score of the half coming from the outside of the boot from the left hand side of the pitch from Danny Denton against the breeze.
At half time we where leading 2-08 to 0-02. This was only possible by the hard work off the backs and in midfield where Kinch and Kelly dominated all day,as they continued to feed the full forward line and with great work rate the half forward line off Pod Biganne , Charlie and Kevin where setting up scores.
The second half started pretty much as the first had ended but to their credit the pearces had a ten min spell where we where under pressure. The introduction off Calvin Mc Sweeney, Damien Barker and Ciaran Melhorn at the break would pay dividends as the trio between them kicked a further 3-1 between them.
On the rare occasion where the pearses got through a tight Cuchulainns defence they received a penalty from the ref which at the time seemed to be outside the square. Sean Molloney would make a fantastic save and this would be his last piece of the action for the day as Kieran Leonard replaced him in between the sticks.
Up front there where further goals from Melhorn (0-2), and Calvin McSweeney and with Barker and Eastwood registering Points it was game over.

Over all a very positive performance by the entire panel. How ever we must continue the hard work in training on a Tuesday and Thursday as the championship is not far off now and we must keep the momentum going.
A special mention must go to Ricardo and Wayne on their debuts who put in solid shifts along with Keith,Paul Cahill, Sean O Connor and Danny Denton who had solid games in the back line. Up top the forward line worked hard and with big Aido winning plenty of ball and laying off we kept it simple and kept putting the scores on the board.
The club where also missing a number of players for one reason or another and they will have to put their heads down in training to try and win back their place on the team . A special mention also to Seamus Kinsella who had an ultimate Frisbee tournament on Saturday and was unable to attend. At least it is not an Olympic sport or we would be loosing him for the summer!!

Cu Chulainns V Dulwich Mcardle Cup 3rd May 2012

by Cu Chulainns on May 8, 2012

Cu Chulians 3-14 Dulwich 1-4.

Thursday evening’s game at Peckham rye saw us take on our local rivals Dulwich harps in a mcardle cup fixture win which puts us into the semi- final off the competition.

We had a very strong panel available and with  a strong team selected  it showed from the min the ball was threw in as we created chance after chance and took our scores well through- out the team, with seven different players getting on the score sheet.

Cu Chulians started the brighter with the first point of the game coming from Chris Eastwood after a good direct ball in from Sean Kelly, after some good build up play from the half back line off Kieran wynne.

Points followed by Calvin Sweeney , an excellent score by the returning Kevin Cott at half back  , and Sean Kelly contributing Two further scores between the Dulwich posts.

In what was a tough game for Dulwich as they could not match the work rate and hunger of us on the night and  we added to the score board  with Aido scoring a great Goal fisting the ball by the Goal Keeper.

Half time 1.07 Dulwich 0-1

The second half began as the first half with cu Chullians bombarding the Dulwich defence  with chance after chance, although to Dulwich credit they didn’t lie down as from the 45th min Dulwich began to chip away at the score board.

With two goals from C Eastwood adding to the score line, the second into the roof off the net after some great work from Aido, and  then with the introduction of team captain Eddie Mcguigan  who steadied the ship we went on to win on a score line off 3-13 to 1-4.

This was a fantastic panel effort and hopefully we can continue the momentum going forward this season and maintain the commitment, dedication and most off all the fantastic numbers at training each week. We would also like to thank all off our supporters who came out on the night to support us.

It was also Great to see some of the old guard making a their first competitive starts off the year  with Stevie Jordan and Paul Cahill both playing  terrific games at full back and corner back  and with Kieran Wynne still full of energetic bursts up and down the field we have gathered a mixture of old wise heads and the younger generation coming through the club  giving us a nice balance to work with .

Team : S Moloney, S Kinsella, S Jordan, P Cahill, K Cott, T Brennan, K Wynne, A Tighe, J kinch, C Cawley, S Kelly, L Kinsella, C Eastwood, Aido, C Sweeney

C Eastwood 2-4, Aido 1-1, S Kelly 0-3, J Kinch 0-2, C Sweeney 0-1, E Mcguigan 0-1, K Cott 0-1

Cúchulainns v Tír Conail Gaels [2008 McArdle Cup Final]

by Cu Chulainns on November 16, 2008

McArdle Cup Final – Sunday 16th November

Cúchulainns 3.12 Tír Conail Gaels 0.04

Alas and the final game of the season finally arrived on Sunday in Greenford. After a long hard year which has seen the boys go to obscure places like Mill Hill they were back in familiar ground for this final. To say that conditions were less than ideal would be an understatement. After adding the Mullarkey cup to the championship cup last week the boys were ready to complete an historic treble by adding a trophy that obviously means a lot to older people in the club.

The reality of this game was that Cuchulainns had far too much talent than their young opponents and with a hard game, in similar conditions, from the week before under their belts it was Cuchulainns who lead from start to end. With a few unfamiliar positional changes it took the men in white (wearing very similar jerseys to that of the current All-Ireland Champions- Tir Eoghain) no time establishing a lead.

First half points from Chris Eastwood, DJ Bradley, Jack Cott and Daire Gilmore gave them a 0.08 to 0.01 half time lead. The second half should have been a lot harder as the boys were playing into a stiff breeze but that didn’t turn out to be the case. Goals from Chris Eastwood, Daire Gilmore and Cathal (the machine) Murtagh made sure that the game ended as a contest long before the final whistle.

Points were added in the second half from Iomar Barratt, Bradley, Eastwood and Byrne but without a shadow of doubt the best score of the half was a point by corner back Eddie McGuigan- many people present said that it reminded them of his fellow county man Ryan McMenemen’s famous point against Armagh in the All-Ireland semi-final of 2005!!!!!

And so the game ended with the massive win 3.12 to 0.04 in favour of the men from the South East. Mrs. McArdle was on hand to pass over the trophy to captain Daire Gilmore on the 30th anniversary of her husband’s death. An emotional end to an emotional yet hugely triumphant year. Many congratulations to all those involved in an epic journey that will be remembered by all in the club and beyond for years to come.

Team and Scorers: Brian Lavell, Eddie McGuigan (0.01), Steven Jordan, Paul Cahill, Kieran Wynee, Padraig Harrington, Ollie Neary, Daire Gilmore (1.01), Fiachra McLoughlin, John Byrne (0.02), Iomar Barratt (0.01), Jack Cott (0.01), Chris Eastwood (1.01), DJ Bradley (0.05) and Pauric Biggane. Subs: Cathal Murtagh (1.00) for John Byrne, Gerry Commane for Ollie Neary, Dave Meade for Paul Cahill, Pat O Connor for DJ Bradley.

Man of the Match: Let’s give it to our brave band of supporters who once again showed up in big numbers (about 13) to cheer us on in terrible conditions.

(I wonder who wrote this one?)
