Having spent the last two finals as onlookers while others lifted the London football championship trophy, finally it was Neasden Gaels turn to celebrate last Sunday in Ruislip as they beat Parnells to take this year’s football title.  Neasden showed determination to go one better this time around when getting off to a flying 0-4 to 0-2 start.  The heavy sod from wet conditions was never going to make it a classic, however, the game was hard fought and close all through. The turning point arrived in the second half when Neasden’s Paul Gerrity fisted to the net to put daylight between the sides. Still Parnells were’nt about to give in and fought back to within three points, but Neasden led by a solid defense held that margin to the end to win by 1-07 (10) to 0-07. Parnells had better luck in the ladies senior football final when beating Kingdon Kerry Gaels by 4-09(21) to 1-08 (11) with the goals making all the difference. Parnells continued their run of success when their minors proved to much for St Kiernans on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-04. The final of the Fr Murphy Cup produced a thriller with Moindearg staging a great second half rally to overcome North London Shamrocks by the slenderest of margins, 2-08 (14) to 2-07 (13). Here to tell us all about the senior final and the rest of the action from Ruislip last Sunday, is London GAA Chairman, Tommy Harrell.

In London last weekend we saw a repeat of last year’s senior football championship final when Neasden Gaels took on the champions Tir Chonaill Gaels in the Tipperary Cup final at Ruislip. Neasden also lost the championship decider to their fierce rivals back in 2008, however they took the spoils and their first Tipp Cup last Saturday. The win should give the North West London club a huge boost of confidence going into the championship which begins this weekend. Also over the weekend in a rather dramatic end to the Mallarkey Cup Final in junior football, Garryowen trumped Dulwich Harps in extra-time. There was wins also for Fr Murphy’s and Kilburn in Division 1 Hurling, while elsewhere on Sunday, London came off second best to Lancashire in this year’s Britain Junior Football Final in Birmingham. Here to tell us about the action is London GAA Chairman, Tommy Harrell.
